CHAPTER 13

BLAKE

Today’s date has been the best idea I’ve had in a long ass time. We spent a few hours in the baby store, having fun looking at all the things companies have made for raising babies. We ended up leaving the store with the onesie Raven picked out, a package of newborn diapers, wipes, and some burp cloths. Nothing huge, but the registry is chock full of all kinds of things.

“Are you still good to go, or do I need to cancel our next stop?” I ask Raven as we place the bags in the back of my SUV.

“I’m good, especially if we can stop for a late afternoon Starbucks,” she says.

“That we can do,” I assure her as we both get into the car. We aren’t going far, just over to another building in this shopping complex, but it’s far enough that we drive across the parking lot. She’s in luck, because halfway to our next stop is a Starbucks, so I pull into the drive through. We both place our orders and I pull forward.

With our drinks and her slice of coffee cake, I drive us over to the nail salon. I booked us pedicures. I figured it was a great way to relax after a few hours walking around shopping.

“I thought we could get pedicures together,” I say as I turn off the engine.

“How did you plan all of this?” she asks, a little shocked.

I shrug. “Just tried to think of casual things you might enjoy,” I tell her honestly.

We make our way into the nail salon, and they whisk us back to two chairs that are side by side. They both have the water already filling up the little tubs. Once we both settled into our chairs, the massage setting turned on, the employee hands Raven a book filled with all the color options she can pick from.

“Hmm, I don’t know what to go with,” she says as she flips through all the pages. They have practically every shade imaginable.

“What’s your favorite color?” I ask, knowing this is another nugget of information I can tuck away.

“Purple,” she quickly says. I look over the purples and point at one. It’s a little on the dark side but screams Raven to me.

“Are you a mind reader?” She chuckles. “That was one of the colors I was thinking about.”

“It reminds me of you,” I tell her.

She tells the employee that it is the color she wants, and they go and pull it from their wall of colors.

We keep our conversation light as we both enjoy the next hour. My pedicure ends before hers since I’m not getting polish, but I stay sitting next to her as they expertly paint her toes, even adding a design to her big toes.

“Feel good?” I ask once we’re ready to leave.

“So good. Thank you for this. It was just what I needed before returning to work tomorrow.”

“How about some dinner before we call it a night?” I suggest. “We can grab some take out and head back to your place or mine, whatever you prefer.
